Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor Bid Farewell to Broadway with Romeo + Juliet

Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor took their final bows on February 16, concluding the highly praised revival of Romeo + Juliet at Circle in the Square Theatre after a successful 20-week run. This production, under the vision of Sam Gold, began previews on September 26, 2024, and officially opened on October 24, reaching impressive heights with 28 previews and 125 regular performances that regularly filled the venue. This is prepared by SSP.
A memorable highlight of the show was its unparalleled appeal to a younger audience, evidenced by 14% of ticket purchasers being aged between 18 and 24, a stark contrast to the Broadway industry average of 3%. The production not only captivated audiences but also set a landmark as the highest-grossing limited engagement ever at Circle in the Square and succeeded in recouping its $7 million investment—a rare feat on Broadway.
Both Zegler and Connor, marking their Broadway debuts, shared their excitement and gratitude on social media. Zegler, known for her Golden Globe-winning role as Maria in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story, posted a series of expressive backstage photos, quoting Shakespeare’s line, "Parting is such sweet sorrow," following their final performance.
The cast, which included Gabby Beans, Tommy Dorfman, and others, was further enriched by original choreography from Sonya Tayeh and music by Grammy winner Jack Antonoff, some of which featured Zegler’s vocals. With the show's conclusion, all eyes are on the approaching 2025 Tony Awards, for which the production is anticipated to be a strong contender.
Looking forward, both stars are set to continue dazzling audiences in major film roles—Zegler as Snow White in Disney's live-action film releasing on March 21, and Connor as part of the ensemble cast of Warfare, debuting on April 11. Through this outstanding revival of Shakespeare's timeless romance, a bridge to a younger generation has not only been formed but has also reinvigorated the legacy of love and drama on Broadway.
