Rebecca Black Opens Up on Wild Online Rumors and Personal Journey

Rebecca Black has garnered attention and rumors throughout her career. Speaking to Us Weekly, Black shared, "I’ve heard just about everything." The singer, now 27, recalled a particularly shocking rumor from her high school days, stating that one spread was about her allegedly doing cocaine off of a Book of Mormon. Black emphasized, "That rumor is not true, just to clarify if anyone’s curious."
Black expressed a mix of disbelief and acceptance regarding the rumors. "Not sure if that’s fine to say," she added, "But yeah, I’ve heard it all."
Fresh off the release of her sophomore album, SALVATION, and the music video for her song "TRUST!", Black is no stranger to the complexities of the entertainment industry. At just 13 years old, she burst into the spotlight with her viral song "Friday" in 2011. This propelled her into fame and sparked widespread online discussion.
Black remarked, "I think the goal with anything I make is to start a conversation, whether it shocks people or not." She acknowledged the evolution of her work, stating, "If you watch the ‘TRUST!’ video and maybe you haven’t followed my journey, it might be surprising." However, she appreciates her loyal fanbase, explaining that many understand and connect with her creative evolution.
On the personal front, Black's coming out as queer in 2020 has shaped her life and artistic expression. She shared with Us, "I just practice publicly." While she noted not much has changed since coming out, she reflected on her unique connection with her fans, saying, "A lot of my fans knew, and my community was smaller than maybe it is now."

Through her experiences, Black noted, "I’ve always had a really special relationship with queer people in my life." She also mentioned how her identity influences her music, stating, "I sometimes change the pronouns in my songs, writing with any pronoun." Black concluded that while her queerness fuels her creativity, it does not completely define her artistic vision.
Black's album, SALVATION, showcases her growth as an artist and her commitment to authenticity in her music.
