Richard Gere Shares Joyful Life in Spain with Wife Alejandra Silva
Richard Gere opens up about his fulfilling life in Spain alongside his wife Alejandra Silva and their children. The actor, aged 75, expressed in an interview with Elle España that he has discovered newfound happiness since relocating to the country. He and Silva, aged 41, are parents to two sons, Alexander, 5, and James, 4, as well as Silva's son, Albert, 11, from a previous relationship.
"The truth is that you are seeing us in our momentum. We are happier than ever," Gere shared. He attributes his joy to his wife's happiness, stating, "If she is happy, I am happy."
Their connection is also strengthened by a shared commitment to environmental work. Gere emphasized their collaboration on initiatives like the Sierra a Mar project in Mexico, which has brought them recognition. "We can all minimize this sense of ego, of the self. True change occurs then," he explained.
He praised Silva, saying, "My wife shines for her open-mindedness and genuine sense of gratitude." He believes connection, whether through spirituality or compassion, is infinite.
Silva echoed Gere's sentiments, stating they have aligned their dreams and values since they first met in Positano. "We are like soul mates," she noted. Their shared outlook on life felt instant for both of them. "We were united by the karma of our past lives," she remarked.
Gere revealed his decision to move to Spain during an April 2024 interview with Vanity Fair Spain, explaining that the move provides Silva closer access to her family. "For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends, and her culture," he said, alluding to her generosity during their years together.
Gere reiterated this during a November 2024 appearance on the Today Show, saying, "My wife is Spanish, and we’re going there for her family, friends, and culture. The kids are bilingual, so it’s going to be great for them."
The couple was later spotted together in Madrid, embracing their new life. Gere recently reflected on his career choices during an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, stating he consciously opted for lower-profile roles.
"I said, ‘Enough. I don't really like all this attention ... I don't wanna be looked at,’" he recalled. He added that he has no regrets about those choices. "I made some choices...they were to be in a smaller game," he concluded.
