Richard Gere to Celebrate Thanksgiving in Spain with His Family
Richard Gere, the renowned actor, is commencing his holiday season in Spain. He announced plans to move there with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their two children, aiming for a fresh start in Madrid. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on November 20, Gere shared insights about their upcoming Thanksgiving celebration in the city.
"My wife, Alejandra, is from Spain. Is that an issue for anyone?" Gere joked. He added that while they will spend significant time in Madrid, he will visit the U.S. occasionally. "She gave me seven years in America, so now it's time for our family to be closer to her roots," remarked the star of *Pretty Woman*. He expressed confidence that their bilingual children would thrive in Spain.
When Fallon inquired if the holiday would be spent in Spain, Gere confirmed, stating, "Yes, we'll be celebrating there." He elaborated on his wife's heritage, mentioning her large Spanish family. "Her grandmother played a pivotal role in holding that family together. Since her passing two years ago, I see my wife stepping into that role." Gere noted that Silva is already organizing meals for a significant family gathering, specifically 35 people for Sunday lunches.
Gere and Silva first crossed paths in 2014 at a hotel in Positano, Italy, and married in May 2018. They recently welcomed two sons: Alexander, aged 5, and James, aged 4. Silva also has an 11-year-old son, Albert, from her previous marriage, while Gere's son, Homer, was born in 2000 from his union with second wife Carey Lowell.
On the same day, Gere appeared on Today with Savannah Guthrie, discussing this new chapter in their lives. "We’re moving for her family, friends, and her culture," he expressed. He further affirmed that being raised bilingual would greatly benefit their children.
The couple's relocation follows the sale of Gere's Connecticut home for $11 million in October. After residing in the six-bedroom residence with Silva and their children for two years, they purchased it for $10.8 million in 2022, as reported by local media, New Canaan Advertiser.
Back in April, Gere first revealed his intentions to move to Spain during an interview with Vanity Fair Spain. "For Alejandra, being near her family and friends is a beautiful opportunity," he added. "She generously allowed me six years in my world, so it's only proper I give her at least six in hers."
