Ricki Lake's 40-Pound Weight Loss: The Details Without Ozempic
Ricki Lake is "living [her] best life" after shedding 40 pounds without relying on Ozempic or similar medications. The actress, 56, recently shared her journey in Us Weekly while promoting her Ricki Lake & Bake cannabis line in collaboration with Stone Road Farms. She embarked on this lifestyle change on October 26, 2023, implementing strict dietary and fitness regimens.
Lake's diet plan began with a "very strict keto diet," paired with intermittent fasting. To enhance her weight loss efforts, she incorporated daily hikes using a weighted vest. Since October, Lake has also practiced Pilates four times each week. This combination helped her lose 40 pounds while helping her maintain the new weight.
"I did not go on any drug because I wasn’t prediabetic," she states, further clarifying that medications can help others. However, Lake preferred not to depend on drugs if possible. Instead, she followed her specific protocols for weight loss.
She used a glucose monitor and tracked her health metrics via an Oura ring. "I prioritized sleep and overall, a low-stress lifestyle. And it worked," Lake reveals. Her lifestyle change continues to deliver positive results.
On the day of her interview, Lake completed a two-mile hike and a Pilates class, a part of her regular routine. "I took what was once a chore, having to work out and get on the elliptical, and now it’s a privilege and a joy," she explains. Seeing results has made this journey worthwhile, enabling her to fit comfortably in size 4 jeans.
Lake gained fame as Tracy Turnblad in 1988’s Hairspray. She has faced weight fluctuations since then, experiencing significant challenges and accomplishments regarding her body. In 2007, Lake featured on Us Weekly’s cover after losing over 100 pounds. Recently, she acknowledged her past while taking a nostalgic Instagram photo in a bathing suit worn years earlier.
For 17 years, Lake maintained her weight loss clothes and questioned why she kept them, contemplating if she'd ever fit into them again. Upon trying them on, she discovered that, not only do they fit, but some needed tailoring to be smaller.
"It’s thrilling. I’m not going to lie, feeling good in my skin is immensely rewarding," she proclaims. She expresses pride in her hard work and emphasizes that now she feels healthier and stronger.
Years after her impressive weight loss, Lake TV revealed her 130-pound weight drop on Good Morning America. During the December 2010 disclosure, she reflected on her challenging issues with unhealthy eating. As the mother of two, joining Dancing With the Stars in 2011 catalyzed further weight loss, as rehearsals felt more enjoyable than working out.
Today, Lake continues prioritizing health and crafting an environment for success. She shares a humorous anecdote about her friends going out late at night, which contrasts with her early sleeping pattern. "I am way asleep by, like, 8 p.m.," she says with a laugh.
Lake tends to wake up early to work out before sunrise. She regularly hikes outdoors, braving even the rain with her dog and husband. In the last year, she described her perception shift toward exercise; now it’s about passion rather than obligation.
"I love slowing down and appreciating nature while moving my body," Lake states.
In addition to maintaining her weight loss, she is focusing on cannabis's benefits for relaxation and avoiding added sugars. Lake’s cannabis line, Ricki Lake & Bake, is available through Stone Road Farms in California, demonstrating the synergy between her health journey and wellness products.
"I obviously believe in this medicine and in Stone Road’s brand and what they’ve built," Lake mentioned in a December 2024 press release. She appreciates how these products align perfectly with her lifestyle.
Outside of cultivating her cannabis, Lake now enjoys cannabis drinks at night with her husband, Ross Burningham. These drinks allow her to indulge without added calories. "I’d rather have my cannabis drink, which is, like, 40 calories," she details, appreciating its minimal impact on her wellness while still offering pleasure.
