Rita Moreno Sees a New Side of George Lopez
Rita Moreno has observed significant changes in George Lopez since their collaboration in 2007. As she returns to appear on the NBC series 'Lopez vs Lopez', starring George and his daughter Mayan Lopez, Moreno, at 92, notices that the 63-year-old comedian has become much more relaxed and humorous. She notes in an interview with PEOPLE that George has developed a "sweet and cuddly" side, a notable shift from when they previously worked together on 'The George Lopez Show.'
Moreno describes her interactions with George as affectionate, revealing how comfortable she felt with him during her guest appearance for the show's Día de los Muertos episode, titled "Lopez vs Halloween." She found him to be quite a "nice guy," a departure from his earlier persona, as evidenced by a heartwarming gesture where he treated the entire cast to dinner at a Mexican restaurant after filming.
Additionally, Moreno's return offered her a chance to reconnect with Mayan, who expresses more confidence in her acting skills today. Moreno fondly remembers meeting Mayan on the set of 'The George Lopez Show' and mentions their growing bond, strengthened through "motherly advice" she once imparted to Mayan.
In her current role on 'Lopez vs Lopez,' Moreno plays Dolores, George’s late grandmother, who appears to rebuke him for disparaging her, embracing a more antagonistic role much like her character in 'The George Lopez Show.' The new show's dynamic twists are set to charm audiences when it airs Fridays at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC, starting October 25.
