Sam Asghari Talks About His Romance with Britney Spears and His Reaction to Her Knife Dancing Video

Sam Asghari spoke on the February 12 episode of "The Viall Files" podcast about his romance with Britney Spears. He described their meeting as a "right place, right time" situation, PEOPLE reported. The couple met while filming the music video for Spears’ "Slumber Party" in 2016, where Asghari played her love interest. Their connection, according to Asghari, felt very "natural." After the shoot, they had a sushi date, and their relationship developed from there.

Looking back, Asghari remembered Spears as "super sweet," stating, "Everything was perfect." They spent time together, going to movies and enjoying each other's company. He found their relationship to be "very traditional" and distinct, emphasizing its significance.

Asghari immigrated from Iran when he was 12. He recognized Spears before meeting her but admitted, "I didn't know any of the songs." Nevertheless, it was the time spent with her that led Asghari to appreciate her talent. After attending one of Spears’ Las Vegas residency shows, he admired her performance skills, saying what an amazing performer she is.

Regarding their lengthy relationship, Asghari shared, "This is a seven-year-long relationship." He noted it was the longest each of them had experienced. He acknowledged the challenges they faced during her conservatorship, describing it as a "very strange" aspect of their life together.

Asghari finalized his divorce from Spears in May 2024 after filing in August 2023. Days before his divorce filing, Spears posted a controversial video on Instagram where she danced with two knives. Podcast host Nick Viall asked Asghari about his thoughts on the video.

He maintained a neutral stance, clarifying that he would never restrict her from sharing content. "I'm not someone that’s ‘Let me, let me take your phone,’" Asghari explained. He emphasized the importance of artistic expression, declaring her a "genius artist."

"All the ideas in her head are gold," he continued, insisting that creativity should thrive without limits. He concluded by stating his support for Spears’ expression, especially since dance resonates deeply with her identity.
