Sandra Bullock Speaks Out on Online Scams and Fake Accounts
Sandra Bullock, who maintains a private lifestyle and doesn't participate in social media, has expressed a strong concern for the safety of her family and those being scammed by people impersonating her. In a statement to PEOPLE, Bullock explained she aims to assist law enforcement in tackling this issue. "I do not engage with social media platforms, and any accounts claiming to represent me or my associates are fraudulent, crafted for financial exploitation," the Bird Box actress emphasized. This is prepared by SSP.
Bullock's warning comes in the wake of her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, highlighting an ongoing issue of impostor accounts on Facebook. On Instagram, Gesine described her daily efforts to report these fake profiles using her name to exploit individuals, often misled into financially hefty interactions due to false connections she supposedly has to Sandra.
Despite gesinately reporting these scams to Meta and even individual employees, these efforts have yielded little success. Sandra's sister frequently receives peculiar and alarming communications both at her business and home as these scammers continue their deceitful activities, cementing her decision to stay on Facebook primarily to monitor these impostor phenomena for her safety and collaborate with local authorities, who have been commendably supportive.
Facebook's contrast to Instagram's effective detection and removal practices has been frustrating for the Bullock sisters, highlighting Meta's inconsistent handling of these fraudulent activities. Gesine also referenced a separate case where a French woman was lured out of a significant monetary amount by a scammer impersonating actor Brad Pitt, underscoring the broad and insidious nature of social media fraud.
Bullock-Prado continues to urge everyone to protect themselves: report and block any suspicious accounts. Amidst ongoing challenges with this issue, fans are further reminded of Bullock's recent performance in "Bullet Train" released in 2022.
