Sandra Lee Shares Videos of L.A. Fires During Malibu Evacuation: ‘Incredibly Terrifying Moment’
In an Instagram post on January 7, Lee, 58, expressed her deep emotional connection to her Malibu home. "My home has supported me through dark moments," she explained. "I’ve enjoyed creating and caring for it. As fire approaches, I pray for it and everyone in L.A. right now. This is a terrifying time for my community," US Weekly reported.
Lee emphasized the importance of community during crises. She urged everyone to stay in contact: "As the fire approaches, please stay connected; we need each other now." She reassured followers that she and her loved ones were safe, despite the fire inching closer to her Malibu retreat.
Reflecting on her journey, Lee shared her length of residency in Malibu, starting from her days as a waitress in 1989. "I dreamed of a home like this and worked hard for it," she noted. She also expressed gratitude towards first responders. "I send love to those brave firefighters working to keep us safe," she continued, showing appreciation for their dedication.
As she recorded the unfolding situation, Lee posted three poignant videos showcasing the rapidly approaching fire. The first clip captured her evacuation moment, where a voice warned her of the nearby flames. "Sandra, it’s right here," someone said as they filmed the fire close by. "I got everything I could," she responded.
The second video depicted the damage she witnessed while driving. Dense black smoke blanketed the roadway. A fire truck was spotted traveling in the opposite direction. In a final video, Lee filmed gray smoke over a body of water, with ash drifting from the sky.
According to the Los Angeles Times, strong Santa Ana winds fueled the brush fires that forced many residents, including celebrities, to evacuate for their safety. The Associated Press reported that over 13,000 structures are currently threatened by the flames, although the fire's exact origin remains unconfirmed.
Eugene Levy, another evacuated celebrity, shared his own experience with the L.A. Times. Describing the situation, he noted, "The smoke was dark and intense over Temescal Canyon. I couldn’t see any flames, but the smoke was horrific."
