Sarah Michelle Gellar: A 'Type A' Traveler Guided by Monica Geller

Sarah Michelle Gellar reveals her structured approach to traveling in an exclusive PEOPLE interview. The actress cites a famous quote from Courteney Cox’s character, Monica Geller, on the show "Friends": "Rules are good. Rules help control the fun."
Gellar, who is 47 and collaborates with Trainline on the "Ticket to Summer Travel in Europe" campaign, embraces this sentiment. "That's me. That's definitely me," she laughs. She describes herself as "Type A," keeping Google Maps organized with pins marking locations she wishes to explore.
"I'm happy to share my itinerary with friends," she explains. "They often react with surprise at the length of my planning. But I see it as providing options." Gellar emphasizes the importance of a structured plan with room for flexibility: "You have to be ready to pivot when needed."
European destinations hold special significance for Gellar. Traveling with her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. and their children, Charlotte, 15, and Rocky, 12, is a cherished experience. "We're definitely an Italy family, there's no question," she states, highlighting the country's appeal for each family member.
Gellar adores Florence for its artwork and history, while Rocky is excited about visiting famous landmarks in Rome, such as the Colosseum. Meanwhile, Prinze Jr. prefers enjoying Tuscany’s wine and truffles, and Charlotte seeks coastal relaxation. "Italy has all of that for us," Gellar remarks.
Another European gem for Gellar is England. "I'm definitely an Anglophile," she admits, praising the quaint fishing villages and the rich history found in London.
Additionally, she reflects on a recent trip to Paris, expressing nostalgia for the French countryside. "Seeing Normandy and Versailles reminded me of the beauty just a train ride away," she recalls, discussing her fondness for new experiences throughout Europe.
Gellar finds her collaboration with Trainline particularly fitting due to her extensive love for train travel. "I’ve always considered train travel glamorous," she shares, appreciating how it reduces anxiety compared to flying. Logistics on planes, like cancellations or missed connections, can be stressful for a planner like her.
"With Trainline, everything is streamlined, available in your language, which eases travel," she notes. Gellar plans to rely on their services during her upcoming trip back to Europe.
Excitedly, she states, "We haven't taken the kids to Spain yet. That journey will definitely happen soon. I want them to see that."
