Sarah Snook Discusses How Taylor Swift Inspired Her Broadway Preparation
Sarah Snook has drawn inspiration from Taylor Swift while preparing for her Broadway debut. The Emmy-winning actress, known for her role in 'Succession', is currently appearing in 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'. This production requires her to portray all 26 characters, including the titular role who trades his soul for eternal youth.
In a recent discussion with The New Yorker, Snook shared insights into her fitness routine as she tackles this demanding role. In response to a question about her regimen for such an active performance, Snook emphasized the importance of health.
She uses a comprehensive strategy: "No alcohol, no caffeine. Sleep, sleep, sleep," Snook explained. Additionally, she practices her lines on a treadmill to maintain stamina. The outlet subsequently noted similarities between Snook’s regimen and Swift’s viral workout routine.
Snook remarked on Swift's method, saying, "That’s a genius idea. I’m gonna do that." Last year, Swift confirmed starting her intense workout plan six months before the first show of her Eras Tour in March 2023. This regimen involved singing the full setlist while running on the treadmill.
"I run fast for upbeat songs and jog or fast walk for slower ones," Swift shared about her technique to prepare for long performances.
Furthermore, during tour breaks, she emphasized rest. "I do not leave my bed except to get food," Swift told Time, explaining how her breaks help her recover physically. She noted the exhaustion from performing and the toll it takes on her body, but expressed fulfillment in feeling her best.
In her conversation with The New Yorker, Snook also recalled the timing of her commitment to 'Dorian Gray', which previously ran in London’s West End. She agreed to take on this challenging role when her daughter was just six months old, joking about her decision-making.
"I had already agreed!" Snook laughed in response to a question about balancing motherhood and this demanding theater role. Additionally, she conveyed that her husband, Dave Lawson, acknowledged the challenge, pointing out that he would have discouraged her had he seen the show firsthand.
She welcomed her daughter in May 2023, sharing a heartfelt Instagram photo with the newborn while watching the series finale of 'Succession'. Snook reflected on how becoming a mother altered her lifestyle, allowing her to prioritize sleep and nutrition to ensure both personal health and performance endurance.
"Keeping myself healthy for being a new mom also helped me with this marathon," Snook stated. She acknowledged the temptation to indulge in late nights but recognized the practicalities of motherhood, noting, "With a baby, you cannot do that."
