Selena Gomez Opens Up About Anxiety and Its Impact on Her Life
Selena Gomez has been a source of inspiration, openly discussing her struggles with mental health. Recently, she shared more about how anxiety affects her daily life, reports US Magazine.
At Wondermind’s Mental Fitness Summit for World Mental Health Day, Gomez, aged 32, revealed she no longer sleeps in her bedroom. This space reminds her of some of her darkest moments. She stated, "I actually don’t even sleep in my bedroom anymore because I associate it with such a really dark time. I am a very anxious person." During her talk, she stressed the importance of having positive self-conversations, noting their significant impact.
In her 2022 documentary, My Mind & Me, Gomez disclosed her battles with psychosis and bipolar depression. She expressed feeling unable to leave her bed for years. "Part of it was I wasn’t doing the work," she mentioned. She emphasized the necessity of self-belief for genuine progress in mental health.
Reflecting on her experiences with fans, Gomez acknowledged an ongoing struggle with fame's attention. Despite this, she focuses on their feelings. "If that’s the case, I’m not saying that’s every day — but I have to breathe, and I have to say, ‘All of this is a gift.’ Making someone smile always brightens my day," she explained.
Gomez credits her mother, Mandy Teefey, as a vital source of support. She recalled her mother saying there would always be noise in life. Finding moments to affirm her goodness is crucial. "I am a good person, I’m kind, I work hard, I’m grateful, and I love all the little things in life," she shared.
Her support network, including her therapist, plays a crucial role in managing her mental health. Minimal but reliable relationships are essential for her. "I don’t have a lot of people in my life; I know who my inner circle is," she explained. Talking through emotions offers a sense of freedom, allowing her to release burdens that weigh her down.
