Sherri Shepherd Calls Out Actress Who Accused Her of Shading

Sherri Shepherd addressed an unnamed actress who accused her of "shading" at the premiere of Othello on March 23 in New York City. The event featured guests like Jennifer Lopez and President Joe Biden.
Shepherd discussed the interaction on her March 24 talk show. She described a tense moment during which a celebrity confronted her. "I get along with everybody, I really do," she explained. While at the premiere, someone forcefully grabbed her arm, prompting her to say, "Hi, what’s going on?" since she recognized the person.
The conversation quickly became uncomfortable. "She said, ‘You’ve been shading me a lot,’" Sherri continued, drawing gasps from her audience. "I was confused and replied I hadn’t. She insisted I had and then just walked off."
Following this encounter, Sherri described her feelings about the situation. "I know who I shade because I don’t shade many people. It might be one person," she emphasized. "I have never shaded this unnamed celebrity."
At 57, Sherri expressed embarrassment over being publicly called out in front of peers, including Devale and Khadeen Ellis. "I was mad," she added. After the encounter, she planned to confront the actress again at intermission. "You don’t get to turn me around and then walk away," she stated.

Shepherd also conveyed a message to the actress. "I think you get me confused with someone else," she said. "I know I didn’t shade you. When something scandalous happened, I was on your side. We've known each other a long time, so come sit on my couch to talk."
To applause from the audience, Sherri concluded her thoughts. "People get stuff confused. I’m so sweet, and I’m a praying person. If you need something, I’ll give you some scriptures." While maintaining her kind demeanor, she reminded, "But I am from Chicago. Okay? I don’t play like that."
Jawn Murray, her producer, playfully hinted at the actress's identity, saying, "I think she might be from Chicago too!"
