Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag File Lawsuit Against Los Angeles
Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag have filed a lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles and its Department of Water and Power (LADWP). This action follows the loss of their home in the Palisades wildfire.
The couple, aged 41 and 38 respectively, join nearly two dozen plaintiffs in this legal case, which was formally initiated on January 21, as reported by Rolling Stone. Among the plaintiffs is Spencer’s mother, Janet Pratt.
The lawsuit alleges that the city of Los Angeles and LADWP mismanaged the water supply, resulting in "an inescapable and unavoidable consequence." According to Rolling Stone, the suit states, "LADWP and the City of Los Angeles had a duty to properly construct, inspect, maintain, and operate its water supply system." It continues to argue that the Palisades Fire stems directly from failures in the water supply system, asserting that this failure significantly contributed to the losses claimed by the plaintiffs.
The lawsuit indicates that LADWP consciously opted to operate the water supply system without a usable reservoir "as a cost-saving measure." It specifically mentions the Santa Ynez Reservoir, stating that it has been awaiting repairs and "out of commission since February 2024."
The document outlines that the reservoir’s failure impacted fire response efforts. "With the Santa Ynez Reservoir effectively out of commission, hydrants in Pacific Palisades failed after three tanks, each holding one million gallons, went dry within 12 hours," noted a statement in the lawsuit, according to People.
On January 7, Spencer’s sister, Stephanie Pratt, shared the devastating news on Instagram. She expressed her heartbreak over the incident, stating, "Honestly looking for advice. I’m frozen in shock." She lamented the confusion and fear experienced by her nephews as they watched their home disappear.
Stephanie continued her sentiments in an Instagram Story, emphasizing her compassion for her brother, Heidi, and the children. She recalled her father's attempts to save the home, noting, "the wind is so strong, there was nothing he could do." Additionally, the loss was felt deeply by Spencer’s parents, who also lost their nearby residence in the fire.
