Spotify Expands AI Playlist Feature to New Regions
Spotify has rolled out its AI Playlist tool to the U.S., Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand after a successful initial launch in the U.K. and Australia. This feature, available in beta on both Android and iOS devices for Premium subscribers, allows users to create personalized playlists through written prompts. Examples of such prompts include "a romantic playlist for date night at home" and "spooky songs to play during Halloween." Once a prompt is entered, the tool generates a playlist which can be further refined using additional prompts. This is prepared by SSP.
The AI Playlist tool, now accessible within the Spotify mobile app, is housed in the "Your Library" tab. Subscribers can tap the plus button (+) at the top right and select "AI Playlist" from the drop-down menu. This will open a chat box for entering descriptions. Spotify encourages mixing genres, moods, artists, and decades for diverse playlist outcomes. Users in the AI Playlist beta can enter prompts specifying various elements like genres, moods, artists, and even objects, colors, or emojis, which significantly enhance the matching process.
Playlists generated through this feature initially consist of 30 songs and can be saved by tapping the "Create" button. Users have reported that the tool is adept at matching songs to niche descriptions, enhancing its versatility. Also, the feature provides suggested prompts for those needing inspiration.
Testing in the UK and Australia has shown positive results, with millions of playlists created and frequently revisited by users. While the AI Playlist feature is currently accessible on mobile apps, it is not available on desktop or web versions. Spotify continues to refine the tool, indicating that ongoing interactions help to further improve its AI capabilities and user experience. The company hints at potential future enhancements based on ongoing user feedback and AI learning processes.
