Stephen Graham Expresses Fear of Injuring Leonardo DiCaprio During Golf Cart Incident

Stephen Graham, star and co-creator of "Adolescence," recently shared a close call with Leonardo DiCaprio on set. This incident occurred while filming Martin Scorsese's "Gangs of New York" in 2002, PEOPLE reported.
During his appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on March 19, 2025, Graham recalled a humorous yet terrifying moment involving a golf cart. "Leo used to drive the golf cart — you know, like they do on movie sets," he explained. Curiously, he requested a turn driving, and DiCaprio agreed.
As Graham operated the cart with their co-star Alec McCowen seated in the back, they raced down a large hill at Cinecittà Studios in Rome. "Golf carts aren't fast, but going downhill is another story," he noted. Suddenly, during a turn, Graham faced a critical issue. "I knocked it into reverse while going fast, causing the back wheels to lock," he explained.
As the cart teetered, Graham described the slow-motion sensation. "It seemed like it was falling in slow motion," he remarked. The scene quickly turned chaotic, which worried DiCaprio, who likely questioned his initial decision to let Graham drive.

Graham recalled DiCaprio's shocked expression as the cart toppled, seemingly endangering his leg. "He looked at me and said, 'What the f---?'" Graham remembered, noting the tension of the moment. Fortunately, DiCaprio managed to escape unscathed.
Following the incident, their equipment manager jokingly dubbed Graham "Ani," signifying the aftermath of his impulsive decision.
