Steve Martin Claims Covid Curse Afflicted Martin Short Post-SNL Celebration

Steve Martin commented that Martin Short contracted COVID-19 following the appearance at Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary celebration.
"Maya [Rudolph] had Covid. Marty has Covid. I wonder why? The SNL 50th Covid curse is real," Martin noted on Instagram, attached to a photo of Maya Rudolph and Short sharing a friendly moment backstage at the event on February 16 in New York.
Due to Short’s illness, Martin revealed that they have postponed some performances from their Dukes of Funnytown Tour. The scheduled shows in Durham, North Carolina, and Knoxville, Tennessee, must now take place on October 17 and October 18, respectively.
"Unfortunately, we have to reschedule our sold-out Durham and Knoxville dates. We apologize for any inconvenience. I think we’ll be funnier then, anyway," Martin conveyed.
The duo, known for their roles in "Only Murders in the Building," joined an array of stars at the Saturday night special. Notable attendees included Meryl Streep, Ryan Reynolds, and Blake Lively.
During the Weekend Update segment, SNL alum Colin Jost humorously addressed health concerns surrounding the special as he joked, "Health experts are facing increased pressure this winter with outbreaks of COVID, flu, RSV, and norovirus, termed a quad-demic. So we packed every beloved entertainer over 60 into one tiny space."
In addition to the anniversary event, Short and Streep were also present at the SNL50: The Homecoming Concert on February 14. They enjoyed the company of fellow comedian Amy Schumer.
"There’s no one funnier to sit next to than Marty Short," Schumer described. "I think that the tea is, I think Marty might be off the market. That’s what I’m seeing. I don’t know," she hinted at a rumored connection with Streep.
Although Schumer refrained from directly stating who caught Short’s attention, she teased about, "the greatest actor of our time," expressing delight over sitting next to Short and Streep during the event. "It was a very fun seat to be seated in," she shared.
