Surfing Star Bethany Hamilton's Debut on The Masked Singer Following Family Tragedy
Professional surfer Bethany Hamilton recently made her debut on The Masked Singer despite a heartbreaking family loss. Her 3-year-old nephew, Andrew Hamilton, sadly passed away earlier this year following a drowning incident.
Bethany, often seen riding waves, stepped into a new role on the Fox singing competition. She took to the stage in the Nov. 13 episode, donning a disguise as Macaron. Introduced by her friend Willie Robertson, a season six alumnus, the reality star acknowledged Bethany’s past struggles. "If anyone knows how life can change in an instant, it's Macaron," he remarked, referencing her experience of losing her left arm in a shark attack in 2003.
In her segment, Bethany gave clues about her literary and musical journey. "Growing up, life was pretty sweet, until my life changed forever," she shared. Describing the challenges, she added, "Instead of my spirit crumbling, I dug deep. I fought hard... So why not act on any half-baked dream by singing on The Masked Singer?"
During the episode, judges Jenny McCarthy, Robin Thicke, and Ken Jeong speculated various identities, with only Rita Ora correctly identifying Bethany. After her unmasking, she reflected on the experience. "I'm more of a wave rider, but this was cool and fun," she stated.
Bethany also conveyed important lessons on resilience. "To me, being unstoppable is not about being perfect," she explained. As a mother of four, she reminded audiences that perseverance is key, even on exhausting days. "It's about getting back on your board and paddling back out, even when discouraged."
This debut occurred nearly a month after her nephew’s tragic passing. Timothy Hamilton, her brother, announced on Oct. 19, 2024, that Andrew passed away after being found unresponsive in a bathtub. "Andrew Samuel Hamilton, born December 26th 2020, entered his heavenly rest on Friday, October 17, 2024," Timothy shared, detailing the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Bethany honored Andrew on Instagram, expressing her grief. "The Lord has received my sweet nephew Andrew into his beautiful care," she wrote. Her tribute showcased a family bond that remains unwavering despite devastation.
