Tan France Cuts His Famous Quiff After Discovering Fan Criticism
Tan France, the British fashion expert, and Queer Eye star, decided to cut his signature pompadour in 2024, PEOPLE reported. At 41, he was known for his stylish salt-and-pepper quiff. In a recent Page Six interview, he explained that fan comments prompted his new look.
France admitted, "I would love to say it’s because I just fancied a change. But really, what sparked it was…I looked at comments about myself after the new season." He usually avoids reading feedback. However, the reception of the latest season pushed him to reconsider his hairstyle.
With the release of Queer Eye's ninth season on December 11, 2024, France began to assess viewers' opinions. He discovered many disliked his hairstyle. "I saw so many people hate my hair. And I thought, ‘Oh, I didn’t realize they hated [it] so much,’" he recounted. This realization led him to experiment with a new style while he still felt youthful.
France expressed that he feels "better" with his updated look. His new haircut features shorter hair on top, which he hopes better represents his playful personality. "I can’t believe that my hair made people think that I was uptight," he remarked, emphasizing that he’d worn the same style for 15 years because it was convenient.
France cut his hair on December 24 and showcased the transformation on Instagram on January 1. He humorously termed it the "New Year, New Hair phase of my mid-life crisis." Alongside Jonathan Van Ness, Antoni Porowski, Karamo Brown, and Jeremiah Brent, France will partake in "The Fab Five Live!" tour. The tour kicks off on February 19 in Philadelphia and concludes on March 12 in Los Angeles.
