Taylor Swift Incorporates Football Moves During ‘Midnight Rain’ Performance
Taylor Swift shines as a football enthusiast, seamlessly blending her love of the game into her Eras Tour choreography in New Orleans.
During her performance on Saturday, October 26, Swift, 34, introduced another football-inspired move to her "Midnight Rain" act. She raised her hands in a field goal shape and mouthed "Touchdown" while singing, "He never thinks of me / except when I’m on TV."
This was the second time Swift showcased a football-related gesture. The previous evening, she playfully pretended to throw a football during the same segment. Throughout the Eras Tour, she adapts her dance during the Midnights break, occasionally mimicking archery, forming a heart shape, or striking silly poses.
Notably, Swift performed her first two New Orleans shows at Caesars Superdome, which will host the 2025 Super Bowl, just before Sunday, October 27’s National Tight End Day. Her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, plays tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.
A Growing Love for Football
Swift's admiration for football blossomed in 2023 after she started dating Kelce, 35. She expressed her newfound appreciation in her 2023 TIME Person of the Year profile: "Football is awesome, it turns out. I’ve been missing out my whole life."
As their relationship progressed, Swift became a supportive presence at Kelce's games, both home and away. During February’s Super Bowl LVIII, she kissed him on the field after the Chiefs' victory in their consecutive championship.
Swift explained, "When you say a relationship is public, it means I’m going to see him do what he loves. We’re showing up for each other, and we don’t care who else is there." She emphasized that a public relationship is about mutual pride, contrasting it with extreme efforts to keep secrets.
Engaging with the Game
Beyond showing her support for the Chiefs in stylish team merchandise, Swift also familiarized herself with football rules before crafting her own plays. Kelce noted, "What makes her so good at her profession is her attention to detail — applied to every element, including music and performances."
Kelce acknowledged her support, sharing, "She’s a little biased and just creates plays for me. We’ll see if they can make it to Coach [Andy] Reid’s office."
Although Kelce could not attend Swift’s Louisiana concerts due to a Chiefs game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday, a special guest did grace the Saturday show: Sabrina Carpenter. The 25-year-old former Eras Tour opener collaborated with Swift for a mashup of "Espresso" and "Please Please Please," along with Swift’s "Is It Over Now?" during the acoustic segment. Soon after, Swift celebrated with a medley featuring "Hits Different" and "Welcome to New York."
