Teddi Mellencamp Focusing on ‘Feeling My Best’ After Divorce Announcement
Teddi Mellencamp opened up about her divorce in her first podcast since revealing the split from her husband, Edwin Arroyave. During the November 5 episode of "Two Ts in a Pod" with Tamra Judge, Mellencamp addressed her situation promptly.
"I am doing alright," she said in response to Judge’s inquiry about her well-being. She emphasized the importance of her children’s privacy during this challenging time. "I just am trying my hardest to ensure that my kids’ privacy is protected right now and that we can have necessary conversations."
Mellencamp announced the separation from Arroyave on November 2. The couple, married in 2011, shares three children: Slate, Dove, and Cruz. Arroyave has a daughter, Isabella, from a prior relationship. "After a great deal of care and consideration, I filed for divorce," Mellencamp stated on Instagram. "My children’s wellbeing and privacy are my priorities during this new chapter."
She expressed that making a public statement was not her initial intention but felt it necessary to prevent rumors. "I aimed for honesty to protect my family from undue speculation."
Mellencamp confirmed her aim in making the divorce public was to manage potential gossip. "When your name is recognizable and you file in court, it becomes public," she explained. "I want to work on feeling my best for my children, my life, and my work. That is my main focus right now."
Though she typically discusses other Bravo stars’ experiences on her podcast, Mellencamp intends to limit conversations about her separation for her children’s sake. "Don’t be a hypocrite, Teddi," she remarked on the matter. "Talking about my own situation feels different, especially when kids are involved, so I need to handle it with more sensitivity."
Mellencamp officially filed for divorce on November 1, citing October 20 as their date of separation due to irreconcilable differences. Shortly after their split, both attended the Cure Melanoma Gala in New York City. At the event, Mellencamp, who has undergone 16 surgeries for melanoma, served as the emcee.
Following the gala, Arroyave praised Mellencamp's resilience. "To see you embrace your pain and use it for a bigger purpose was a beautiful reminder of your capabilities," he wrote in an Instagram tribute. "Her story has already saved lives. I couldn’t be prouder, and I love you, Teds."
