TikTok Fined by UK Authorities for Data Reporting Breach

TikTok, the popular video sharing platform, has been fined £1.9 million ($2.4 million) by British telecommunications regulator Ofcom for its failure to promptly provide safety data as required. Ofcom has accused TikTok, which is owned by Chinese company ByteDance, of sharing inaccurate information and not addressing the issue in a timely manner.

According to Ofcom's statement, the fine was imposed on TikTok for not accurately responding to a formal request for information about its parental controls safety feature. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the platform had provided inaccurate data on the usage of the parental controls tool, significantly underestimating its popularity among users.

TikTok acknowledged the error and, although it eventually submitted the correct information, admitted its failure to report the mistake promptly. Apologizing for any inconvenience caused, a TikTok spokesperson stated that the company is fully committed to cooperating with Ofcom and has implemented internal processes to prevent such errors in the future.
