Trace Cyrus Pens Emotional Open Letter to His Father, Billy Ray Cyrus

Trace Cyrus shared a heartfelt letter on Instagram addressing his father, Billy Ray Cyrus. He expressed deep concern for Billy's health, saying, "You're not healthy, Dad, and everyone is noticing it," PEOPLE reported.
Trace's message followed his father's recent performance at the Liberty Ball, part of President Donald Trump's inaugural celebrations. Two days prior, Billy faced criticism for technical issues while performing. The 35-year-old singer reflected on his upbringing, revealing that since his earliest memories, he idolized his dad. He remarked, "The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life." However, he feels a disconnect now and said he barely recognizes the man he once admired.
In his post, Trace shared a nostalgic photo of them on stage. He mentioned feelings of sadness regarding how life seems to have taken a toll on Billy. He stated, "It seems this world has beaten you down, and it’s become obvious to everyone but you." Trace expressed concern for his siblings as well, highlighting how Billy’s distance has affected their family bonds.
Trace conveyed that his sisters, Brandi, Miley, and Noah, are also worried. He urged Billy to reconnect with Noah, stating, "Noah desperately has wanted you to be a part of her life." Despite the distance, Noah still looks up to her father, who also has children with others.

His touching words continued, longing for the happy memories they once shared. Trace stated, "We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns." He recalled supportive moments, such as attending Grandma Ruth's funeral when it was unexpected.
He confessed that the message stems from love and a fear of losing his father. "I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear." Trace disclosed that he has been sober for over a year, feeling amazing and that he wishes to support Billy. He asked his father to reach out if he needed help.

After Trace's concerned post, Billy shared his perspective on the criticisms of his performance at the Liberty Ball. He posted a video of himself performing his hit "Achy Breaky Heart" and expressed enjoyment from the event, stating, "This was the most fun part of the Liberty Ball!" He also acknowledged the technical difficulties while acknowledging his presence was for the attendees.
Describing his experience, he emphasized the importance of entertaining despite challenges. Billy said, "In life when you have technical difficulties, you just gotta keep going." He concluded with pride about being invited to the event, highlighting the spirit of performing for the audience no matter the circumstances.
