Travis Kelce Proudly Takes on Executive Producer Role for "My Dead Friend Zoe"

Travis Kelce continues to grow his career beyond the football field as an executive producer, US Weekly reported. The 35-year-old NFL star played a key role in the new film "My Dead Friend Zoe," featuring actors Sonequa Martin-Green, Natalie Morales, Morgan Freeman, and Ed Harris. The movie, directed and written by Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, premiered at South by Southwest last year and will be released in theaters on February 28.
Kelce expressed his excitement about the project. "Being part of "My Dead Friend Zoe" as an executive producer has been an incredible experience," he stated on February 19. He emphasized the film's important message, saying it "tells a compelling story and shines a light on the challenges our veterans face." Kelce expressed pride in being a member of the movie's team, wishing to engage in more substantial projects that inspire and entertain.

The film is a dark comedy that centers on Merit (played by Martin-Green), who struggles with PTSD after losing her friend Zoe (portrayed by Morales), also a veteran. Kelce highlighted the film’s strong female characters, appreciating Martin-Green and Morales for bringing depth and authenticity to their roles. He noted their portrayal of "the strength, resilience, and leadership of women" in the military.
Filmmaker Hausmann-Stokes remarked on Kelce's essential contribution to the project, despite their hectic schedules preventing him from visiting the set. He acknowledged the strong commitment of the entire cast, which included 90 percent actual veterans, to social impact and meaningful causes. "It was an honor to have Travis among our ranks for those same reasons," he noted.
Kelce, a top NFL player for over a decade with the Kansas City Chiefs, reflected on his team’s challenges during this year’s Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles. Following the February 9 game, he mentioned the Chiefs "couldn’t find that spark" necessary for victory. As speculation concerning his NFL future arises, he expressed in his "New Heights" podcast that he wouldn't rush into any major decisions.

"I think I'm gonna take some time to figure it out," he said on February 12. He affirmed his commitment to his teammates saying, "If I do come back, it’s gonna be something that’s a wholehearted decision." His evaluation of his motivations and personal well-being is crucial for any future pursuits.
Outside of football, Kelce has ventured into acting and entertainment. He appeared in FX's "Grotesquerie" last year and has a role in the upcoming movie "Happy Gilmore 2" alongside Adam Sandler. He also hosts Prime Video’s "Are You Smarter than a Celebrity?"
In terms of his relationship with Taylor Swift and future plans, Kelce remains unhurried. Us Weekly shared that he aims to conclude his career positively and is "reconsidering" his next steps, highlighting Swift's support regardless of his decision.
