Why Fans Suspect Selena Gomez Referenced a Taylor Swift Song on Her New Album

Selena Gomez appears to have made a subtle nod to Taylor Swift in her latest album. Fans have speculated about a resemblance in the lyrics of Gomez's new track "Younger and Hotter Than Me," PEOPLE reported.
Released on March 21, Gomez, along with her fiancé Benny Blanco, unveiled their album titled "I Said I Love You First." In the song "Younger and Hotter Than Me," Gomez sings, "We’re not gettin’ any younger, but your girlfriends seem to." This line drew comparisons to a key lyric from Swift’s "All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version)," which states, "I’ll get older, but your lovers stay my age."

In another part of Gomez's song, she asks, "Is she younger and hotter than me? Is it all in my head?" The thematic echoes and lyrical similarities caught the attention of Swift’s devoted fans. One user expressed this connection on X, noting, "The subject matter of this song is reminiscent of "All Too Well," especially lines like ‘we're not getting any younger, but your girlfriends seem to.’"
Listeners have been quick to share their thoughts on the similarities between the two songs. Another fan stated, "Younger and Hotter Than Me by Selena reminds me of All Too Well (10 Min Version) by Taylor." One even shared a video combining visuals from both songs. The repeated themes of youth and love resonated with many fans.
Selena and Taylor share a long-lasting friendship, dating back at least to 2008. This close relationship might explain the lyrical connection. The following day, Taylor Swift praised Gomez's new project on her Instagram Stories, enthusiastically mentioning, "@selenagomez & @itsbennyblanco I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH."

Taylor previously supported Gomez's track "Single Soon" as well, posting a lively reel to celebrate her friend’s success. In April 2023, Gomez showcased her support during Swift’s Eras Tour, bringing along her sister Gracie for the memorable event. They reunited again for another concert later that summer.
When Gomez announced her engagement to Benny Blanco in December 2024, Taylor gave a heartfelt response. She humorously commented, "Yes I will be the flower girl," highlighting the bond they share.
