Will Reeve Honors His Dad Christopher by Retracing His Last Expedition

Will Reeve embarked on a heartfelt journey to pay homage to his father, Christopher Reeve, the renowned Superman actor. As stated in the trailer shared exclusively with PEOPLE, Will expresses his deep admiration, saying, "To millions, he was Superman. I idolize and miss a different Christopher Reeve... dad."

The 32-year-old ABC correspondent set out to travel to the locations his father visited during his final expedition, just before the tragic horseback-riding accident that left him paralyzed thirty years ago. In the upcoming ABC primetime special "Will Reeve: Finding My Father," airing on February 26, Will invites viewers to journey alongside him.

The initial adventure, enjoyed by both Christopher and Will, involved tracking the migration of the Pacific gray whale from Mexico to an island near Siberia.

Will, reflecting on his father's legacy, shares, "My father was my hero." This passionate sentiment anchors the one-hour special. Will emphasizes, "I’ve inherited some of my dad’s sense of adventure in my job at Good Morning America and across ABC News." He sees this journey as an unfinished story that needs an ending.

At just two years old, Will experienced his father’s injury and lost him at twelve due to complications. Carrying a lingering sense of unanswered questions, Will explains, "I have traveled the world telling stories, but this is the one story that needs an ending."

He recalls how his father "lived a life filled with epic adventure" and feels a compelling urge to discover what his father left behind. "For thirty years now, I’ve dreamed of taking a journey to the last places he visited before his accident," Will shares.

In his travels, Will discovers remnants of his father’s influence at those once-visited locations. "The men who hosted my dad in those places have since died," he notes, "so I found their sons and asked them to guide me."

A profound moment from his journey appears in the trailer, enhanced with live footage, where Will mentions a man finding him on the beach with a thirty-year-old photo of himself with Will's dad. "How cool is that?" he reflects.

Despite Christopher's passing in 2004 at the age of 52, Will feels that this journey has created a deeper connection. "I've waited thirty years to do this and share the experience with my father. Turns out, dad did leave something for me out here."
