Yankees Alum Brett Gardner Announces the Death of His 14-Year-Old Son

Former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner and his wife, Jessica Gardner, shared tragic news regarding their son, Miller. The announcement revealed that Miller has died at the age of 14.
MLB alum Brett Gardner and his family are mourning an immeasurable loss. On March 23, the Gardners disclosed that their son, Miller Gardner, passed away after falling ill while the family was on vacation.
"In heavy hearts, we share the passing of our youngest son, Miller," they expressed in a statement via the Yankees' social media. "He was only 14 years old, leaving us far too soon along with several family members."
The couple stated that many questions remain unanswered. However, they confirmed that Miller died peacefully in his sleep on March 21.
Brett and Jessica described Miller as "a beloved son and brother" to their eldest child, Hunter Gardner, who is 16.
"We cannot fully grasp life without his infectious smile," they expressed. "Miller loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He truly lived life to the fullest every day."
Brett, who spent 14 seasons with the Yankees before retiring in 2021, along with Jessica mentioned their appreciation for the support they have received. They believe their faith, family, and friends will help guide them through this unimaginable hardship.
The couple also sent prayers to Miller's teammates and friends, along with all families mourning children lost too soon. They requested privacy during this challenging time as they seek healing.
Miller played on his school’s football team in South Carolina and wore the No. 11 jersey, his father’s number with the Yankees, as reported by ESPN.
The Yankees expressed their condolences, stating, "Our hearts are heavy, and the Yankees family is filled with grief after learning of Miller's passing." They emphasized the deep bond formed over Brett's 17-year connection with the organization, which includes Jessica and their two boys.
"We grieve with Brett, Jessica, Hunter, and their community of family and friends," they added. "Miller had a bright spark in his eyes, a lively personality, and a warm heart."
The Yankees noted their unwavering love and support for the Gardner family, acknowledging their need for privacy during this time. "May Miller rest in peace," they concluded.
