Zayn Malik Dedicates Song to Brother Liam Payne During Show in His Hometown: ‘I Hope You’re Seeing This’
Zayn Malik, 31, honored Liam Payne during a concert in Wolverhampton, England, on Nov. 29. Malik is the first One Direction member to publicly address Payne since his passing on Oct. 16.
Malik dedicated his song "It’s You" to Payne during the Stairway to the Sky Tour. While performing in Payne’s hometown, he spoke fondly of his late bandmate for the first time. A fan video shared on X (formerly Twitter) captured the emotional moment. Malik stated, "So I’ve been doing something at the end of the show every night and it is being dedicated to my brother Liam Payne." The audience cheered warmly.
He continued, "Rest in peace. I hope you see this. We’re in your hometown tonight, Wolverhampton. This is for you, Liam. Here’s another song, ‘It’s You.’"
Payne tragically died at age 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on Oct. 16. Malik’s tribute follows another acknowledgment of Payne during a show at the O2 Academy in Leeds, England, on Nov. 23. This performance marked Malik's first since Payne's death.
Before the conclusion of that Leeds show, a tribute appeared on a large screen. While Malik's song "Stardust" played, a message stated: "Liam Payne 1993-2024, Love you bro," set against a blue backdrop with a red heart. Malik attended Payne’s funeral on Nov. 20, alongside former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan. This gathering was their first public appearance together since Malik's departure from the group in 2015.
On Oct. 19, Malik postponed his U.S. tour dates in light of Payne’s death. He wrote on his Instagram Stories that "given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week," he would be rescheduling the dates. He concluded with gratitude for his fans’ understanding.
Malik is set to start his U.S. tour in Washington on Jan. 21, 2025. Following that, he will perform in New York City, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, concluding in San Francisco on Feb. 3, 2025.
