A Boost in Multitasking: OpenAI's ChatGPT Mac App Update
OpenAI has unveiled an enhanced version of its ChatGPT Mac app, revolutionizing multitasking capabilities with its AI chatbot, reports TechRadar. Previously, users could activate ChatGPT by utilizing the Option-Space keyboard shortcut. However, after the new update, things have changed. Upon accessing ChatGPT's search box and entering a query, a compact overlay window now appears instead of the main ChatGPT window, allowing for seamless multitasking.
What sets this overlay apart is its functionality, resting atop existing windows without the need to switch between applications. Users can conveniently position the ChatGPT mini-window alongside or on top of other windows, thus improving productivity.
The recent ChatGPT update not only revolutionizes multitasking but also includes other noteworthy improvements. Enhancements to data analysis result in chatbot-generated tables and charts now having an expandable view, granting users interactive capabilities. OpenAI further offers customization options, allowing users to download charts for presentations and documents and select specific table cells for further analysis by ChatGPT.
Complications arose during the update process, with inconsistencies in acquiring the new features. Initial downloads from OpenAI's website granted version 1.2024.199, featuring the new mini-window overlay. Yet, updating the version to 1.2024.212 appeared to remove the overlay. It was discovered that installing the app via alternative methods resolved this issue. Hence, users encountering difficulties finding the feature should explore different approaches to downloading and updating the ChatGPT app.
While OpenAI has not disclosed an exact release date, it teases that a Windows version of the ChatGPT desktop app will arrive later in 2024. For Mac users interested in experiencing the new features offered by ChatGPT, the updated app is readily available. However, it requires a Mac with an M1 chip or better, running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. OpenAI continues to innovate, ensuring seamless AI integration for enhanced user experiences.
