Alison Brie Talks Preparations for Upcoming Community Movie Sequel
Alison Brie has shared her excitement for the upcoming Community movie sequel, revealing that she rewatched episodes of the show to get back into character as Annie Edison. Prior to the premiere of her thriller film Together at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, the 42-year-old actress discussed with PEOPLE her preparations for the sequel. Her meeting with series creator Dan Harmon spurred her to revisit some classic episodes, which she found delightful. This is prepared by SSP.
Brie first indicated in August 2022 that behind-the-scenes efforts were underway to bring the beloved NBC series, which ran for six seasons until 2015, to the big screen. During her appearance on The Wrap's UnWrapped podcast, she mentioned, "There’s been movement," emphasizing that ongoing discussions and certain plans were in action. Joel McHale, another Community star, affirmed these developments in an interview with GQ two years later, noting that although the film "hasn't been shot yet," funding from Peacock represents a significant stride forward, fueling his hopes that audiences still want to see it materialize, potentially as early as the next year.
In December, fellow cast member Ken Jeong confirmed having read a script co-written by Harmon and Andrew Guest, stating it had an emotional impact on him. He remained tight-lipped about the specifics, echoing McHale's uncertainty regarding the production timeline, but conveyed his eagerness for the entire cast to reunite for this venture. "Once that’s agreed upon, it’ll be magical and real emotional," he shared with TV Insider.
Outside her impending return to Greendale, Brie is actively promoting Together, a film she co-produced with her husband and co-star, Dave Franco. The couple's approach involves deep involvement with their projects, balancing full immersion while filming with complete relaxation afterward. Reflecting on her work method during Sundance, Brie explained PEOPLE they leave the intensity of the set behind, describing their post-filming routine with humor: "we just lay in bed like vampires and sleep." Together is set to be showcased at the Sundance Film Festival from January 26 to February 1.
