All About Shawn Johnson and Andrew East's Three Kids
Shawn Johnson and Andrew East, both accomplished former athletes, are proud parents to three children: Drew Hazel, Jett James, and Barrett Madison.
Shawn's journey began when she retired from gymnastics in 2012. Shortly after, she met Andrew, a former NFL star. They married in 2016 in Tennessee. However, their journey included challenges, such as a miscarriage in 2017, which they discussed in an emotional YouTube video. In Shawn's words, "The past 48 hours have been some of the happiest, scariest, and saddest times of my life."
Their family grew when Drew Hazel was born in 2019, followed by Jett James in 2021. Most recently, Barrett Madison joined the family in December 2023. "Our baby boy has finally arrived, and we couldn't be more thrilled," the couple shared.
Drew Hazel East, Age 5
Drew Hazel, the couple's first child, arrived on October 29, 2019. Shawn announced the pregnancy in April of that year, excitedly stating, "We cannot WAIT to welcome you to the world." She weighed 8 lbs. 8 oz. and measured 20.5 inches. Shawn noted that Drew’s name honors Andrew, referring to him as "the most incredible person I know."
The couple frequently shares Drew's milestones, such as meeting her favorite character, Blippi. Drew, affectionately called "Roo," has shown a particular interest in gymnastics. Shawn remarked on how much Drew enjoys the sport, running energetically in the gym, and expressing her enthusiasm with terms like "Mama, trampoline!"
Jett James East, Age 2
In January 2021, Shawn revealed that they were expecting their second child, stating simply, "Here we go again." Jett James was born on July 19, 2021, weighing 9 lbs. 13 oz. and measuring 21 inches. Shawn and Andrew shared their happiness, stating, "We are loving life as a family of four."
Jett is known for his adventurous spirit. Recently, Andrew posted a video of Jett escaping from his pack-and-play at night, showing that life with him can be chaotic. The siblings Drew and Jett are also learning about babyproofing together, as seen in a fun Instagram video of them exploring safety locks.
Barrett Madison East
Shawn announced her pregnancy with Barrett while in Greece in July 2023. She mentioned that both Drew and Jett were excited about the new sibling. In December 2023, after a cesarean section, they welcomed Barrett into the family.
Shawn expressed the emotions surrounding Barrett’s birth: "The third time feels surreal. Though we’ve done this twice, there’s always nervousness and excitement before holding your baby for the first time." December holds special significance as Andrew’s father passed away shortly after his birthday. Their third child sharing such a meaningful date adds extra significance.
The couple chose to keep Barrett's sex and name private until sharing lovely family photos. On social media, Shawn proudly announced, "Barrett 'Bear' Madison East," expressing their joy in finally welcoming him home.
