Angelina Jolie Reveals Son Maddox Is Now a Trained Pilot

The renowned actress Angelina Jolie shared that her son, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, is now following in her footsteps as a pilot. The 23-year-old has taken to the skies, inspired by his mother, PEOPLE reported. "I am a pilot," Jolie stated on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" episode aired on December 5. "And my son Maddox is training to be a pilot too. Actually, he is a pilot now."

Jolie first took to flying in 2004, motivated by Maddox's fascination with airplanes. "Every time Mad sees a plane, he’s amazed," she explained. "If I could fly by the time he’s four, I’ll feel like Superman to him."

Jolie earned her pilot's license in December 2004. By early 2005, she had purchased a Cirrus SR22-G2, a single-engine aircraft. During her flights, she kept Maddox close to her heart; her aircraft’s tail number included the letters "MX" in tribute to him. To enhance her flying skills, she trained with an instructor and her then-husband, Brad Pitt, while residing in Canada.

Sources from that time mentioned Jolie's competency and confidence as a pilot. One said, "She just beams in the cockpit," highlighting her natural enjoyment of flying. In 2017, she revealed that Maddox had also embarked on his flying journey.

Jolie has shared experiences from her son’s flying path. "He’s quite capable and always takes me by surprise," she stated. Recently, she received a call reporting that Maddox could fly solo. "I nearly dropped the phone!" she exclaimed.

Jolie is not just starring in films but also champions her children's engagement with their privacy. When discussing her family dynamics, she noted some of her children prefer to stay out of the limelight. "My kids, some of them want to be private," she shared. "Especially Shiloh. I think she most of all would like privacy."

While Jolie is renowned for her acting career, she humorously reflected on considering a backup path – becoming a funeral director. "Doesn’t it make sense?" she laughed. "I remembered thinking this is not how they should be. This should celebrate life. I thought I could do a thing here. It’s my fallback career."
