Apple's New iPhone Incorporates Arm’s AI Chip Technology
Apple's latest iPhone will utilize Arm’s AI chip technology, according to a report from the Financial Times. The upcoming iPhone will feature the new A18 chip, developed using Arm’s V9 chip design. The unveiling is scheduled for an event on September 9 at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California.
During this fall event, Apple is expected to reveal several new iPhones along with updates for various devices and applications. Last September, Apple signed a significant agreement with Arm, extending their partnership well beyond 2040, which marks a significant endorsement for Arm's chip technology.
Arm reported in July that its V9 chip accounts for 50% of smartphone revenue. The company's intellectual property supports the computing architecture behind the majority of smartphones globally. Arm licenses this technology to Apple and many other companies.
In designing its custom chips for iPhones, iPads, and Macs, Apple leverages Arm’s technologies. The two companies boast a long-standing relationship. Apple was among the founding partners of Arm in 1990, prior to launching the "Newton" handheld computer in 1993, which utilized an Arm-based processor. Although the Newton did not succeed, Arm evolved to dominate mobile phone chip production, celebrated for its low power consumption that extends battery life.
