Barry Keoghan on His Naked Dance Scene in *Saltburn*: "It Was All Me"
Barry Keoghan confirmed that he did not use a prosthetic for his topless dance scene in "Saltburn." This revelation came during an episode of The Louis Theroux Podcast, which aired on November 4. The 32-year-old Irish actor, known for his role as Oliver Quick, discussed shedding his clothes for the full-frontal sequence.
When Theroux brought up rumors about Keoghan using enhancements or prosthetics, the actor expressed surprise. "Wait, enhanced? Who said that?" he remarked, questioning the speculation. Keoghan clarified further, stating, "Nah... Wow. It was all me. I didn't really bat an eyelid about it. I would have if it hadn’t fit the story."
Keoghan shared insights into his discussions with director Emerald Fennell. He noted they aimed to instill a sense of ownership in his character, who inhabits a mansion by the film's end. "We all walk around naked at home, right? We’re comfortable. This scene reflects that," he explained.
The standout moment featured Keoghan dancing nude to Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s "Murder on the Dancefloor." He revealed that his primary concern was not the nudity, but rather the dance itself. Theroux joked about the decision to have Keoghan naked, to which the actor admitted, "My hesitation was the dancing. I don’t like dancing."
Despite his apprehension about dancing, he recognized its importance for character development. "If it fits the character and moves the story forward, I’ll do it," he stated, emphasizing his willingness to take risks for the role.
During an interview for Vanity Fair's 30th annual Hollywood issue in February, Keoghan expressed that he was "pretty impressed" with his dance moves. He also addressed feelings of objectification tied to the scene, noting that public commentary can impact mental health.
Regarding this issue, he said, "It’s crazy. It can be detrimental to your mindset if you dwell on it too much." Keoghan also mentioned his readiness to handle public opinion, noting, "I wouldn’t engage if I wasn’t prepared for that."
