Barry Watson Reflects on the Loss of His Father
Barry Watson is mourning the death of his father, Michael, whom he learned about two days after escaping the L.A. wildfires in January. The actor, known for his role in "7th Heaven," shared an emotional message to honor his father on Instagram, detailing the moment he received the heartbreaking news.
On February 13, Watson revealed, "It was a month ago when I got the call from my sister. I was heading to the airport with my wife, daughter, and three dogs after being evacuated for two days due to the Palisades fire. My sister said, ‘I’m sorry, dad just passed.’" Watson described their shared moment of grief, saying, "We cried together on the phone for a few moments. I told her I would call back after going through security. What a weird drive that was."
Watson also shared his reflections on his father’s life, emphasizing the positive impact he had on those around him. He expressed uncertainty about why he was sharing, noting the struggle to process the loss even a month later. "My dad brought joy, engaging conversation, and continuous laughter—sometimes just with his own laugh," he noted. "I will miss him. I will honor him, in ways I don’t even know yet. As my brother Scott said during the eulogy, ‘I’m proud to be your son.’ I love you, dad."
His tribute included meaningful details such as Michael’s dates of birth and death: "Michael A. Watson 5/7/41-1/13/25." Watson made it clear this narrative was not to elicit pity, stating, "This isn’t a pity party. A life well lived. And we are lucky. We didn’t lose our home."
While Barry Watson confirmed his home remains intact, he was among many who faced evacuation during the devastating fires. On January 10, the actor shared a video of himself evacuating from Brentwood, showing ash falling like snow from the sky. "Let’s Go Bill! Just got the order to evacuate Brentwood," he wrote in his post. "Waiting for one more neighbor before I head out."
