Bindi and Robert Irwin Commemorate Their Late Dad Steve Irwin on His Birthday
Bindi and Robert Irwin honored their father, Steve Irwin, on his birthday. The tributes appeared on their Instagram accounts on February 22, which marked his 63rd birthday, PEOPLE reported.
Bindi, 26, shared a heartfelt photo kissing her dad on the cheek. She wrote, "Happy Birthday, Dad. To the world, you will forever be remembered as the greatest Wildlife Warrior. To me, you’ll always be the most incredible dad and now our family’s guiding light. I love you and I miss you every day."
In her Instagram Stories, Bindi posted another childhood image. This time, she’s wearing armbands on her dad’s lap at the sea. She added, "Happy Birthday, Dad," across the image.
Bindi previously expressed that grief for her dad feels like "a scar on her heart." She emphasized, "Those feelings are a part of me."
Meanwhile, Robert Irwin, 21, shared a tribute stating, "Always my greatest inspiration." He included a nostalgic photo of Steve with a crocodile in the forest.
In the comments, Terri Irwin expressed her support by writing, "So much love❤️."
Terri, age 60, also made a tribute on her Instagram. She shared a black-and-white photo of Steve smiling with a crocodile. Her message read, "Happy birthday❤️🐊."
Steve Irwin passed away at 44 on September 4, 2006, due to an attack by a stingray. He was filming at Batt Reef in Australia at the time. He left behind Bindi and Robert, along with his wife, Terri.
Bindi shared during a recent podcast, "Grief is a funny thing where it changes over time." She recalled that adults would tell her, "Time heals all wounds," which she found confusing as a child. Now, at age 26, she believes those words were inaccurate.
"Time alters perspectives, but the grief remains," she shared. "That feeling is part of me, like a scar on your heart."
Bindi further noted that her dad's absence impacts her differently now. Instead of solely feeling devastation, she experiences love and warmth from her memories. "I want to make him proud and ensure his legacy lives on," she affirmed.
