Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford Address Divorce After 17 Years of Marriage
Actors Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford are discussing their recent separation after a long marriage, US Weekly reported. The couple shared an Instagram statement on January 9, revealing their decision to divorce after 21 years together and 17 years of marriage.
Routh, 45, and Ford, 46, expressed, "To everyone who has loved and supported us, we have some personal news to share. We have decided to begin a new journey and enter this next chapter as friends and co-parents."
They emphasized their commitment, stating, "We are now and forever rooting for each other as we move through this wild adventure called life. Our son is, and will always be our highest priority, and we appreciate your understanding of this transition."
Routh and Ford married in 2007 and welcomed their son, Leo, who is now 12 years old. Us Weekly confirmed earlier this week that Ford had filed for divorce, requesting joint legal and physical custody of Leo and spousal support from Routh.
The couple expressed mixed feelings about sharing their divorce amid the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. They described their situation as "ridiculous" given the circumstances surrounding their homes. Routh and Ford noted, "We were focused on grabbing our go-bags and evacuating yesterday. It feels ridiculous to post this statement with fires still raging. We are safe but in shock and grief for our friends who have lost homes and businesses."
In their statement, they added, "Our hearts break for our community devastated by the ongoing fires. We love you, Los Angeles❤️." The wildfires, affecting Pacific Palisades, have caused many to evacuate, including other celebrities.
Brandon Routh and Courtney Ford met at Hollywood’s Lucky Strike bowling alley when he was bartending. They dated for three years before Routh proposed in 2006. They married the following year, forming a supportive public relationship.
The couple frequently shared their life with Leo on social media. In June 2021, Ford praised Routh, posting, "The man, the myth, the Legend. #HappyFathersDay from Spider-Man and me. Thank you for our family @brandonjrouth ❤️." Two years later, Routh honored Ford on Mother’s Day, expressing, "She’s a ride-or-die friend and a mom who’s all in. I’m so grateful that Leo has @courtneyfordhere, who jumps feet first into living, giving him permission and unconditional love to be fully himself."
