Christopher Knight Reveals Producers' Lies About Spider Scene on Brady Bunch
Christopher Knight shared details about a surprising encounter during his time on The Brady Bunch. The now 67-year-old actor joined his former co-stars, Barry Williams and Eve Plumb, on NBC’s Today to discuss memorable experiences from the show. This is prepared by SSP.
One episode that stands out features perspective from season 4, titled "Pass the Tabu." In this scene, Knight’s character, Peter Brady, awakened to find a tarantula crawling on him. However, the actor later revealed he was misled.
"They did lie to me," Knight said. He recalled how producers assured him they added ball bearings to the spider's fangs to prevent it from injecting him. "I was terrified," he admitted, adding, "I needed to seem brave in front of the girls. I shouldn't let them know I was scared."
Barry Williams, 70, added his reflections on the memorable moment, stating, "That was a real spider and it was right on him. I had to figure out how to get it off." Williams, as the oldest Brady sibling, felt a responsibility to help Knight safely.
"I had a tarantula as a pet, so I knew how to handle it," Williams explained. He carefully scooped up the spider to prevent harming it. Plumb, 66, shared her recollection of Fluffy the cat, who was on set as a pet but eventually "faded away" after the pilot.
"That’s TV," she noted. "Stuff comes and goes." Knight also chimed in about a similar situation with Tiger, the dog, who vanished from the show after season two. "Tiger was important, and he just disappears," he remarked.
The Brady Bunch, airing from 1969 to 1974, featured other beloved characters played by Susan Olsen (Cindy Brady), Maureen McCormick (Marcia Brady), and Mike Lookinland (Bobby Brady). The series efficiently highlighted family dynamics. It is available for streaming on Pluto TV and Paramount+.
