College Football Star Ben Christman Dead at 21
Ben Christman, a member of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) football program, was found dead on February 11. He was only 21 years old.
The University of Nevada community is mourning the loss of this student athlete. According to UNLV officials, Christman was discovered deceased in an off-campus apartment. The university has notified both his family and teammates. However, a statement released on February 12 indicates, "We don’t have further details at this time."
The cause of death has not yet been disclosed. The Clark County Coroner's Office confirmed this information to E! News.
In response to Christman's death, many within the UNLV community expressed their shared grief. Head coach Dan Mullen mentioned, "Our team's heart is broken to hear of Ben's passing." He noted that Christman had joined the program just a month before his death, contributing to a stronger team culture. Mullen emphasized that Christman quickly earned the respect and friendship of his teammates. He closed his remarks, offering prayers for Christman's family and those who knew him.
University president Keith E. Whitfield expressed his sorrow, saying he is "incredibly saddened." He highlighted the pain of losing a young member of the university community. He sent heartfelt condolences to Christman's family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.
After graduating from high school in Ohio, Christman started his college football journey at Ohio State in 2021, playing for two seasons. He transferred to the University of Kentucky for the 2023 season. Although he dealt with an ACL injury that sidelined him during his first season at Kentucky, Christman featured in all 12 games in the 2024 season before moving to UNLV.
In a reflective Instagram post from 2023, he quoted Drake’s "Lose You," saying, "I’m in it for the glory, not the honor mention. Not tryna be 4th and inches, I'm tryna go the distance."
