Daddy Yankee Alleges Estranged Wife Mireddys González Withdrew $80 Million Without Permission
Daddy Yankee's divorce from Mireddys González has taken a complex turn. The reggaeton icon, aged 47, is seeking an injunction against her, alleging that she withdrew $80 million from the bank account of his record label without permission.
Court documents, obtained by Billboard, reveal that Yankee (birth name Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez) filed a motion in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on December 13. The filing is against González, her sister Ayeicha González Castellanos, and El Cartel Records. Yankee established El Cartel in 1997, while González served as CEO, and her sister held positions as secretary and treasurer.
In his legal claim, Yankee stated that he lacks access to information regarding the company, despite owning shares and being the foundation of Cartel Records Inc. He emphasized that he continues to generate revenue that he is entitled to but no longer has oversight or access.
Moreover, Yankee has requested that the court remove González and her sister from any authority or involvement in the corporations. He seeks the return of documents and information that they have allegedly withheld. Yankee expressed concerns that González and her sister have concentrated too much power over El Cartel’s operations, leading to negligence and poor company performance.
The $80 million withdrawal took place on December 12, after Yankee previously notified González and González Castellanos not to conduct any transactions for El Cartel on their behalf.
Yankee's filing notes recent developments surrounding the sale of his music catalog for $217 million. In October, independent music company Concord acquired rights involving hits like "Gasolina," "Con Calma," and "Despacito." Yankee contends that González hired someone not authorized to represent El Cartel in this sale, resulting in a value that was, according to him, far below what it should have been.
As of now, Yankee claims he is unaware of the exact details of the transaction. He does not know what was sold or any limitations on using his own music.
Yankee and González announced their decision to separate on December 1 after nearly 30 years of marriage. Yankee posted on Instagram, sharing news about their divorce. He explained, "With a heart full of respect and honesty, I want to share some important news about my personal life..." He appreciated their shared time, highlighting their priority for family amidst this challenging period.
The couple wed in 1995 at the age of 17 and are parents to three children: Jesaaelys (28), Yamilet (27), and Jeremy (26).
