"Days of Our Lives" Actor Francisco San Martin Dead at 39
Francisco San Martin, known for his role in "Days of Our Lives," has passed away at 39.
San Martin originated the character Dario Hernandez in the NBC/Peacock soap opera. He died by suicide on January 16, as reported by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office. According to Deadline, he was born in Mallorca and portrayed Dario for six months in 2011. The character returned in 2016, with Jordi Vilasuso taking over the role.
In addition to "Days of Our Lives," San Martin’s credits include playing Mateo, a groundskeeper on "The Bold and the Beautiful," in 2017. He also had a role in "Jane the Virgin," acting as Fabian Regalo del Cielo. This character appeared in seasons 3 and 4 and had a brief romance with Jane, portrayed by Gina Rodriguez.
Camila Banus, his co-star on "Days," shared heartfelt words in an Instagram tribute. She expressed her love and remembered a moment when he witnessed a past birthday celebration. Her tribute included: "Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend."
San Martin was born in Mallorca but grew up in Montana. He moved to Madrid as a teenager, where he began his career as a model and actor.
"Days of Our Lives" will mark its 60th anniversary in 2025. Former stars, including Peter Reckell (Bo Brady) and Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady), are expected to return for the celebration. Sweeney mentioned to TV Insider in August 2024, "I was thrilled to be invited to return." She added, "If at all possible, I’m so glad to make it happen."
Executive producer Ken Corday stated in October to TV Insider, "We always love it when members of our beloved family return to Salem. Fans are really going to enjoy what we have planned beginning this fall and well into next year."
