Drake Gifts $10,000 to Winner of Toronto Lookalike Contest
Drake recently joined the ranks of celebrities endorsing lookalike contests in their honor.
The 38-year-old rapper announced a $10,000 prize for the winner of a contest in Toronto, his hometown. The event took place on Saturday, December 14. Following the announcement from Casuals Bakery about the lookalike competition, Drake reached out via Instagram. In a direct message on December 12, he stated, "I’m adding 10 bands to the look alike contest … as the main prize," according to the bakery’s public post.
The bakery’s owner expressed excitement after sharing the message, stating, "I can barely type and a whole shock went through my body. But yes this is true and real & I hope the Drake doppelgängers ready 🔥 LETSSSSSSSS GOOOOOOO." The contest concluded with a female fan winning by donning pigtails like Drake’s October style along with a drawn-on beard, as evidenced by a video shared by the bakery.
This contest echoes similar events across the globe that highlight stars like Timothée Chalamet and Harry Styles. Chalamet notably surprised fans at his own lookalike contest in New York City’s Washington Square Park in October. Disguised with a baseball cap and black mask, he eventually revealed himself and posed for photos. In this event, Miles Mitchell, a Staten Island contestant dressed as Willy Wonka, emerged victorious. He designated his prize for chocolate purchases, telling Us Weekly he would "buy a bunch of chocolate" with his winnings.
In another recent contest, Glen Powell, known for "Hit Man," offered a unique prize. He promised the winner in Austin, Texas, not just money but also a cameo opportunity for a family member in his next film. Powell stated, "Look, I know there is some cash and a hat at stake here, but I just want to say that the winner of today’s contest gets a personal prize from me." According to the Austin American-Statesman, Max Braunstein won and participated in a celebratory video chat with Powell afterward. Photos showcased contestants wearing cowboy hats to reference Powell’s character, Tyler Owens, from "Twisters."
