Barrymore said on "Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen," "I think she was just teasing. The internet misunderstood and ran with it." She expressed gratitude for their evolving relationship, stating, "I think Martha really does like me." This marks a significant change in her perception of Stewart, as she previously doubted the positivity of their dynamic.

In the same playful segment, Barrymore stroked Stewart's arm while discussing romantic partners' affection preferences. Stewart humorously rejected her touch, saying, "You’re the wrong gender."
