Elton John Details Strict Diet in His 70s

Elton John follows a strict diet to maintain his health, avoiding sugar entirely. Recently, the "Rocket Man" singer shared insights on his ideal death row meal as well.

Despite the strong temptations around him, John maintains sacrifices for his well-being. Diagnosed with Type II diabetes in the early 2000s, he identifies foods he loves but must refrain from consuming.

"I can have an apple or a bit of melon," John stated on the Nov. 11 episode of Ruthie’s Table 4 podcast. He added, "As long as you're sensible, it won't affect your blood sugar. But I crave chocolate and ice cream, and I can't have any ice cream."

John also mentioned he yearns for food from the South, recalling, "Food is incredible in the South." He desires items that aren't beneficial for him, such as fried chicken and donuts. "If I had a death row meal, I’d choose sweets since I can't eat them now. Ice cream, donuts, apple pie, rhubarb crumble—those would be my selections."

John's dietary decisions extend beyond food. At 77, he has also enforced strict boundaries in his daily routine. Throughout his performing years, he combined meal planning with a consistent work schedule while on tour.

"I would arrive at the venue by three o'clock," John said. "Then I’d sleep until 5:30. Afterwards, I’d have dinner at around 5:30."

When asked about his pre-show meal, he described it as simple. "It would probably be a small steak and some vegetables," he explained. "Just protein and veggies; you can’t perform feeling unwell."

Post-meal, he kept his routine uncomplicated, mentioning, "I faff around getting ready, and then that’s it."
