Eric Ripert's Wife 'Parties Every Night' Without Him: A Glimpse into Their Relationship
"She's a ball of pure positive energy," Eric Ripert tells PEOPLE about his wife, Sandra. The couple has been married since 1998.
Eric Ripert, famed chef of the three-Michelin star restaurant Le Bernardin, dedicates his weekdays to the kitchen. He also enjoys visits to Balthazar, a casual French eatery in New York. Eric and Sandra have dined at Balthazar since its opening. Eric typically orders oysters, clams, and shrimp, alongside an ultra-spicy steak tartare and fries.
The 59-year-old cherishes his rituals. His day begins at 5:30 a.m. with meditation. He then heads to Le Bernardin, where he's been executive chef since 1994. "It's not a job. It's not work. It's a passion," he explains. To Eric, cooking is a lifestyle.
Even during weekends, Eric stays connected to cooking. He ensures one night is reserved for him to cook at home for Sandra. "Whatever I'm giving her, she's happy with because she doesn't have to cook," he shares. Eric's culinary creations are guided by seasonal market finds.
In their relationship, Eric and Sandra embody contrasting personalities. Eric represents calmness and order, while Sandra brings fun and energy. Eric compares her to his boisterous friend José Andrés. "Sandra is Puerto Rican, Latina, proud of it. She’s a New Yorican, always on the go," he elaborates.
He admires her vibrant spirit and ability to remain in a good mood throughout the day. He's often in awe, questioning how she maintains such positivity.
At events like the Cayman Cookout, their personalities shine. Sandra effortlessly enjoys the dance floor, while Eric quietly observes with a flute of champagne. He reflects the same dynamic back home in New York. "She goes out often; she shouldn't wait for me every night from the restaurant," Eric explains. "So she parties every night!"
Their long-lasting marriage thrives on compromise. Eric emphasizes the need for generosity and patience in a relationship. For him, love is essential, and having shared experiences – such as a designated night for French meals – also supports their bond.
