Felicity Jones Talks Second Oscar Nomination and The Brutalist
Felicity Jones discovered her second Oscar nomination while at a mall in England. "I was going up the escalator," she shares with PEOPLE in this week’s 2025 Oscar Portfolio. She was completing some shopping when her publicist and agents informed her of the nomination. She recalls cheering with excitement during the phone call, amusing fellow shoppers in the process. This is prepared by SSP.
This year, the 41-year-old actress is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Brutalist. In the film, Jones portrays Erzsébet Tóth, a Hungarian-Jewish immigrant. The film, directed by Brady Corbet and starring Adrien Brody, earned ten nominations from the Academy, including Best Picture, on January 23. "It's just been a fantastic celebration of the film," Jones emphasizes. "We never quite expected the reception we received. Opportunities like this are rare, so I’m trying to enjoy every moment."
Reflecting on her journey, Jones points out the significant personal changes she's faced in the decade since her first Oscar nomination. This milestone was for The Theory of Everything in 2015, where she starred opposite Eddie Redmayne.
Jones mentions, "I feel I’ve gone through a lot personally." Among these changes, she celebrates her role as a mother of two children with husband Charles Guard. Balancing family and work, she acknowledges the challenges of managing time. "It’s constant juggling," she explains. "Having a family makes your time precious, and it adds meaning to my work. When I choose projects, I wholeheartedly commit because they must really count."
At the 97th Academy Awards on March 2, 2025, Jones will compete against Monica Barbaro, Ariana Grande, Isabella Rossellini, and Zoe Saldaña for the Oscar. As for her Oscar outfit, Jones is excited and has "a very good idea" of what to wear, following her gray Alexander McQueen gown from 2015. "I’m currently in fittings," she reveals. "Fashion has always fascinated me. I eagerly anticipate the dress I've chosen."
The 2025 Oscars will be hosted by Conan O'Brien and will broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 2, beginning at 7 p.m. ET on ABC and Hulu.
