Finn Wolfhard Recalls Being Mistaken for Timothée Chalamet in New York City: 'Very Funny'

Finn Wolfhard nearly won a lookalike competition for Timothée Chalamet in New York City. The iconic contest around Washington Square Park had gone viral recently.

While promoting his Great Ghost Search campaign with Ring, the "Stranger Things" actor shared an amusing experience. "One time in SoHo, I was getting into an Uber with friends," Wolfhard explained to Us Weekly exclusively. "Another group had also called an Uber to the same place, and it was the same car. We mistakenly thought it was ours."

Upon attempting to enter, the other group excitedly recognized Wolfhard. "As we were getting in, they got in too. When one of them saw me, his eyes widened," the 21-year-old continued.

For Wolfhard, being recognized in New York City happens regularly. His roles in "Stranger Things," "It," and "Ghostbusters" have gained him considerable fame. However, this recognition was particularly unique.

"I thought, ‘Oh no, he’s gonna know me from the show,’" Wolfhard continued. "Instead, he exclaimed, ‘Oh, my God. You’re Timothée Chalamet!’ I laughed, saying, ‘That’s crazy that just happened!’ It was very funny and quite a relief. I responded, ‘Yes, I am!’"

While both actors share similarities — both are under six feet tall, have long, dark curly hair, and a fair complexion — they have differences. Chalamet, 28, hails from New York City, while Wolfhard, the younger actor, is from Canada.

Wolfhard isn't alone in this confusion. On October 27, Chalamet doppelgängers flooded New York City for a lookalike event, with Chalamet making an appearance himself.

"I’m a huge Timothée Chalamet fan," said Anthony Po, the YouTuber who organized the gathering. "The way he navigates spaces is impressive, especially as an influencer."

Chalamet's surprise visit created quite a stir, leading to chaos. Po, 23, received a $500 fine for lacking a proper permit but remained unfazed. The crowd relocated to Mercer Playground to crown the competition winner. The title went to a 21-year-old named Miles Mitchell, who wore a Wonka outfit.

Many attendees, dubbed "Twin-othées," mentioned their resemblance to either Wolfhard or Chalamet, sharing stories of often being mistaken for the stars while on the streets.
