Google's Repair Policy for Pixel Watch 3 is Truly Concerning
The new Pixel Watch 3 maintains a concerning trend: it can't be repaired, only replaced. If its screen cracks, Google's policy is to offer replacements rather than repairs. This marks the third consecutive generation of the Pixel Watch under this no-repair policy, as highlighted by a Google representative to Android Authority. This is prepared by SSP.
Replacements for the Pixel Watch 3 are available, particularly for those who have Google's Preferred Care insurance program, which costs $89 for two years or $4 per month over 60 months. With Preferred Care, a replacement unit costs $49. However, the program must be purchased at the time of buying the watch or within 30 days of the purchase.
This replacement-only approach dates back to the original Pixel Watch, which also lacked repair options. Google's policy persisted despite using new materials in the Pixel Watch 2. Preferred Care is again offered for the Pixel Watch 3, covering both the 41mm and 45mm models under similar terms and pricing.
Users without Preferred Care can contact Google Pixel Watch Customer Support for potential discounted mail-in replacements or explore other self-repair avenues. However, Google's clear stance favors replacement over repair, continuing to challenge the watch's repairability.
The new Pixel Watch 3 became available in early August, offering robust hardware but perpetuating limited options for damage repair.
