Inside Edition Reporter, 33, Credits Olivia Munn with ‘Saving My Life’ During Mastectomy Journey

A reporter is praising actress Olivia Munn for a significant impact on her life. Inside Edition’s Alison Hall made an emotional announcement on Instagram on January 8, revealing her recent breast cancer diagnosis and upcoming mastectomy.

In her heartfelt post, Hall, 33, shared, "Let me tell you how Olivia Munn and Inside Edition saved my life." Last spring, after Olivia Munn shared her own breast cancer journey, producers at Inside Edition assigned Hall to cover the story. This led her to a breast cancer doctor in New York City for necessary testing, which she underwent on camera. Inspired by Munn, Hall took the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Test.

Hall learned that her risk was "high," prompting the "wonderful doctors" at Lenox Hill Hospital to suggest yearly mammograms and MRIs. She shared, "I was ready for this journey over time, not realizing how quickly this would change my life." In October, after her first breast MRI, Hall received the life-altering news right before her 33rd birthday: "you have breast cancer."

Doctors informed her that the cancer was a "stage zero," meaning it had not spread. Hall explained that she has an early form of malignancy known as DCIS. This type, according to Johns Hopkins, is a non-invasive breast cancer that begins in the milk ducts.

Hall candidly expressed the rollercoaster of emotions she has faced, stating, "I have felt fear, anxiety, dread, and gratitude." Her husband’s reassuring reminder that this is "the best, bad news" speaks to their optimism. Given her family’s history of breast cancer and her own past issues, Hall decided to confront the current cancer while also significantly lowering her future breast cancer risk. She stated, "I’ve chosen to undergo a double mastectomy with reconstruction next week."

Munn, 44, previously shared her own stage in this journey, revealing a breast cancer diagnosis in March 2024. In a detailed Instagram post, Munn wrote about her overwhelming experience, acknowledging, "Surprisingly, I’ve only cried twice." She focused on maintaining clarity during this challenging time.

During her Wednesday post, Hall expressed that she sees "this experience as a gift." Her diagnosis presents an opportunity to "do this for my future self and future children." She is grateful for the incredible support she receives from her family, friends, and professionals. Hall remarked, "I believe in storytelling's power. Olivia Munn sharing her story saved lives. It played a part in saving mine, and I hope my story will inspire others."
