Jana Kramer Believes One ‘OTH’ Female Costar Dislikes Her Due to Past Drama
Jana Kramer suspects that past issues on "One Tree Hill" have created tension with a former co-star. On her "Whine Down" podcast, Kramer candidly said, "I still don’t think one girl likes me on the show." She mentioned that she often avoids interactions with this cast member during conventions.
Kramer did not specify which female cast member she referred to, but co-star Kate Voegele reassured her that the drama was "totally made up." Kramer expressed an intention to reach out via direct message, saying, "Are we cool?" She continued, "We don’t have to be friends, but there doesn’t need to be any awkwardness."
Kramer made these comments while conversing with Voegele about their experiences on "One Tree Hill." Voegele shared that her lowest moment on the show involved confronting "predatorial issues with our boss," likely referring to Mark Schwahn, the show’s creator.
Voegele recounts, "One of the things this person did the most was try to really sow discord among the women." She felt pressured by the creator, believing he was manipulating her perception of relationships on set. Initially, this manipulation left her feeling isolated during the early seasons.
Voegele ultimately chose to address her concerns directly with those she believed disliked her. She stated, "[If they hate me], they can tell me to my face." In truth, the animosity stemmed from Schwahn's attempts at manipulation, which left everyone confused.
Kramer shared her experience related to costar Shantel VanSanten and similar drama. She recalled, "That was one of the ones that he tried to pit. And I'm just like, ‘What did I do?’" However, they worked through this misunderstanding, eventually forming a strong friendship.
Kramer recounted an unsettling message she received from Schwahn while shopping with co-star Sophia Bush. "He was clearly flirting. I thought, ‘What do I say back?’" She chose to respond humorously, although she realizes she would handle the situation differently in hindsight.
In November 2017, Audrey Wauchope publicly accused Schwahn of sexual harassment. Female cast and crew members, including Kramer and Voegele, later supported her claims through an open letter. They characterized Schwahn's behavior as an "open secret" during their time on set.
In the letter, they noted, "Many of us were, to varying degrees, manipulated psychologically and emotionally." Some women received threats that jeopardized their careers, highlighting the emotional strain and trauma they faced while working on the show. Schwahn faced consequences after these allegations, being fired from his position on "The Royals."
